Ormiston's Emotional Wellbeing Programme (EWB) offers early intervention and preventative programmes for young people, aged 5 to 16 years whose emotional well-being and mental health may be at risk.
Our programmes of support include:
- Individual support - ages 5 - 16
We create personalised programmes of support, enabling children and their families to make choices about the support they receive. - Support for parents
Support is offered to parents/carers individually and in groups. We use the The Incredible Years programme, developed by Caroline Webster Stratton which has become one of the most widely researched parenting programmes available, and the Strenghtening Families Programme. The focus is to guide parents in sharing and developing approaches that discourage unwanted behaviour and encourage positive interactions. Themes include play, praise and rewards, effective limit setting, handling misbehaviour, effective communication and problem solving. - Group support - ages 5 - 16
We offer tailored groups where content is negociated with the particpants. These groups bring together young people with similar needs or experiences and focus on the development of social skills, building confidence, communications skills and building positive relationships. - Protective behaviours - ages 5 - 13 years
A practical and down to earth approach to personal safety. The process encourages self-empowerment, the development of skills for personal protection and to avoid being victimised. - Moving on transition group - Year 6
The key aim is to create a safe environment in which young people can discuss issues around their transition to high school. Sessions include sharing feelings, benefits of change, problem solving, peer pressure and bullying, and staying safe. - Culture Clubs - ages 5 - 16
This group aims to encourage children and young people to explore themes of diversity and culture in positive ways. Topics include introduction to culture, flags, language, festivals and celebrations, and sharing cultures. - Story Group - ages 5 - 10
Story groups offer young people a range of strategies to deal with their emotions in a positive way, allowing time to explore issues through imagery and metaphor, giving the opportunity for personal reflection and shared learning. Activities include drama, creative arts, puppetry, trust games and structured and open discussion.
